For Those It May Concern

Recap: September last year, I went off the pill. I'd been on it for 10 years.

Current Status: I have just started my third period since then. That's averaging one ovulation cycle every three months. Which, to be honest, I'm not complaining about, but it is something to keep in mind if you're in the same situation and planning on making babies right away.

Possibly Unrelated, Probably Not: Insomnia dropped in for a visit Sunday night. I was still awake when my alarm went off, and spent most of the day quite deliriously cheerful. Lack of sleep, probably combined with the usual hormonal skirmish, sent me home with a screaming migraine. I slept till late evening, shuffled about in an unattractive fashion, then went back to sleep for a further thirteen hours.

Probably a good thing I did not plan on discovering cold fusion today.

  1. Why'd you pop off the pill?

  2. The pill has been linked to insane migraines, which I'd been developing with crippling regularity, plus there was a good chance that going off would lessen my depressive tendencies. Also, wasn't doing the regular sex thing.

So far, it's all wins for me. Resigned to condoms for the rest of my life.

  4. (I don't know anyone who's quit the pill who isn't happier for it. My ex-girlfriend swears by her IUD, by the way. If you should find yourself at some point doing the regular sex thing.)

  5. (Er, when I say "at some point," I don't mean at a moment's notice, obviously.)

  6. I prefer to stay on the pill, myself - I don't get migraines, but PMS is *noticeably* worse, as is the rate of hemoglobbinous expulsion.

  7. Checking the rate of hemoglobbinous expulsion (fabulous term, totally stealing) was another reason to go off. They were long before I went on. In keeping with my ovaries being confused as all hell since going off the pill, this 'period' lasted three days.

  8. I was only on for a couple years but I've been all messed up since being off as well. Although I think I was messed before going on anyways...

I have to say my rate of hemoglobbinous expulsion (and I agree, excellent term) seems a lot more manageable since being off the pill. As is the pain. It's been a general decrease of pain each time, which is good considering I had days at work where I almost couldn't stand up because of the pain. Until the drugs kicked in and I was basically too high on pain meds to notice.

  9. Migraines may well attack you once again when you hit menopause, she said, wishing she didn't feel as if her hair were on fire.

May your bodily youth last forever.

  10. I (hopefully) have at last another two decades before having to survive menopause, that said, my pre-period headaches still occur, just not with the same intensity.

I hope your own migraines shove off soon enough. Wouldn't wish them on anyway.
