My bro and I had this thing where, during most school holidays, we'd sit down and play Secret of Mana on the SNES, from start to finish. I don't know how many times we've finished that game, but it's one of those games that is just so well designed and thought through, it never gets old. We're about to embark on another such marathon.
We just got home from sitting around in KFC eating a very late dinner beneath unflattering fluro lights. Never of us had eaten for about 9 hours. Hunger is the best sauce, they say, and those chips hit the spot. Neither of us are fast food sit down eaters, but it'd be a long day, and neither of us had any sort of enthusiasm for cooking.
We'd left the hospital as Mum was being wheeled away for emergency surgery. It was one of those 'have this operation right now or die' situations.
Neither of us are particularly worried about her. Serious, yes, but uncomplicated. All the same, that's my Mum they're taking pieces out of. She was lying there telling me not to worry. The audacity of the woman, I swear. I imagine, when they call at some ungodly hour to tell us the results and exactly what on earth is going on, I shall feel less assured.
